Urban Decay Shattered Face Case Review

Urban Decay Shattered Face Case

Beauty Bay

RRP $62.30 AUD

Hey Beauty Babes!

This is the second item that I got in my Beauty Bay haul. I decided that I needed a new palette, and this seemed like a great place to start with the Urban Decay palettes (eventually I’ll buy a “Naked” palette). It has everything you need in one totally awesome package.

Urban Decay Shattered Face Case is a badass and truly deluxe makeup palette which is packed with all the essentials for a range of complete makeup looks.

Urban Decay has done face cases before but NEVER like this! Shattered Face Case is a dual layered faceted case which features five new and exclusive eye shadows, 6 blushes and a highlighter. Shattered Face Case also includes a travel sized version of the renowned Zero 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil and a full sized Super Saturated High Gloss Lip Colour.

The top tier holds the eyeshadows and eyeliner with a full sized mirror whilst the lower tier contains the blushes, highlighter and lip colour with another full sized mirror. Specially designed to give Urban Decay fans a really versatile, all in one kit which can be used for travelling and to create a complete look.

This thing is honestly pretty awesome. It is perfectly compact – in fact it fit’s inside the little makeup bag I usually keep with me in my car to do my makeup before work. Every colour in the kit has been perfectly selected to help create an everyday look – or go all out and create a super bold look. The possibilities are endless!

So on to the swatches.

Tier 1 – Eyeshadows

Shakedown is described as a smokey grey. There is a little bit of shimmer to it, making a great colour to include in a smokey look, either in the crease or just under the waterline. It can be a little heavy for everyday use, but otherwise is a pretty awesome colour.

Remix is described as a bold violet shimmer. And just like the 24/7 Glide on Pencil in Riot, I’m in love. I use this on over Riot on my lower lash line, to add a nice pop of colour to a usually quite tame office look (yeah my bosses are pretty understanding). It performs quite well, and I will be very sad when it runs out (all the colours are exclusive to this face case I think).

Nameless is described as a muted chocolate. I feel like this pairs perfectly with the other two nude colours in the palette, to make  smokey-eyed look that isn’t overbearing. Normally I’m not into brown colours, but this one is rather versatile.

Minor Sin

Minor sin is described as a champagne shimmer, and is currently my go-to lid colour. It’s such a nice feminine colour, without being too “girly”. It looks like it would be at home on the Naked 3 palette with it’s almost rose -gold tinge to it. This can definitely be worn everyday, for any situation!  My second favourite colour in the set.

Bleach is described as a matte biege, and is a perfect contrast against Minor sin. It works perfectly as a highlight colour along the brow bone, and the colour itself isn’t too intense, and both complements and contrasts all the other colours  in the palette.

The top tier also features the eyeliner for the set – 24/7 Glide on Pencil in Zero (same travel-size on the ones in the Black Market set). This is a true black – or as described by Urban Decay, a “Classic Zealous Black”. Mine is already at the point that it needs sharpening, I use it so much!

Tier Two – Blushes/Highlighter

I tried getting photos of the swatches I really did, but the lighting was terrible  (too warm) so nothing was showing up nice enough

Overexposed (Blush)

Overexposed is described as a nude cheek colour. This is a much more toned down  blush colour than I am used to, but I think this may be what I have been searching for. Some days my skin looks a little “ruddy” and a proper pink just does not suit it. This is a nice alternative.

Temper (Blush)

Temper is described as a timeless pink cheek colour. It’s appears to be the quintessential pink colour. If I get my foundation pale enough (which I actively try to I must admit), then this may suit me. It may be the colour to suit everyone (but don’t hold me to that).

Glint (Highlighter)

Glint is described as a highlighter with a touch of champagne shimmer. I have to admit to being one of those people who doesn’t know how to highlight properly, so I don’t feel like I could give a fair assessment of it. However, it is still a really beautiful colour. There is just enough of a shimmer to it that it catches the light, but doesn’t make it look like you have a face covered in glitter!

The second tier also has a Super Saturated High Gloss Lip Colour in Lovechild. It is described as  a dusky pink lip colour. In some lights, this looks like a muted pink, in other lights it looks waaaaaaaaay too pink for me. I do like the formula though, so I’m thinking my next Beauty bay order will include a colour that I like and I will swap them over.

Overall, this is an amazing palette. It is the perfect size to carry with you, and contains the colours to create everything from everyday looks to bold and smouldering evening looks. I am definitely impressed with it (even if i’m not too keen on the lipcolour).

Urban Decay Black Market 24/7 Glide on Pencils review

Urban Decay Black Market 24/7 Glide on Eye Pencil 6 Piece collection

Beauty Bay

Hey Beauty Babes!

Late last year, I took the plunge and finally decided to invest in some Urban Decay products. I wanted to get the best value for my money, so I decided to buy this awesome kit of travel sized eyeliners (because you can never have enough eyeliners). You can’t buy Urban Decay here in Australia (and apparently you can’t buy stuff from their website and have it sent to Australia), so I had to venture to one of their genuine stockists – BeautyBay.com. I believe they are based in the UK, and deliver took around 3 weeks (but that’s just due to Christmas). Here is the description for this kit from Beauty Bays website:

Urban Decay Black Market 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil 6 Piece Collection is a must have collection of travel sized eyeliners. Featuring five exclusive shades and one core hue in better than basic deep, smokey shades, Black Market 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencil 6 Piece Collection is the ultimate eyeliner collection for every woman. 24/7 Glide On Pencils are created with 50% moisturising ingredients including Jojoba Oil, Vitamin E and Cottonseed Oil, suspended in a waterproof formula for long lasting colour and a comfortable and smooth application.

The eyeliners are presented in a foam casing of some sorts – it looks pretty cool but they are a pain to get out (as you might be able to tell from the damage I have inflicted on the poor thing).

On to the swatches!

West is described as a “dark brown pearl”. It’s a nice classic brown for the days when black is a little too dark, but greys or taupes feel a little too boring. Perfect for everyday use.

Desperation is described as a deep taupe/matte grey. You could almost go as far as saying it’s a mushroom-y colour (or is that just me? I’m weird I know). This is also a great colour for everyday, especially in an office environment when you can’t be bothered with black

Black Market

Black Market is our “black” colour for this set, it’s described as a charcoal black satin This is a perfect everyday colour and it’s not as dark and intimidating as some other black eyeliners out there. Although if you are looking for a super dark black eyeliner, then this may not be dark enough for you.

Now on to the bolder half of the set. Riot is described as a Smokey grey matte with violet and fuchsia micro sparkle, but honestly it comes across as just being a super awesome  purple. I personally use this everyday as I like to spice up my “office” makeup with this, but it may not be appropriate for all work-places! I’m pretty sure this is my favourite colour from the set, and once my little pencil runs out I will be buying a full sized one!

Apathy is described as a metallic olive green shimmer. I must admit this is really a beautiful colour. It would be perfect if you are doing a green and gold eye look and want to add some class. Definitely a colour to use when you want to step out of the norm.

Ink is a deep navy blue satin. And it’s gorgeous. Even though it’s not a colour I would wear all the time, it’s certainly a handy colour to have (Doctor Who makeup anyone?). It is such a fun colour, and you could pair it will a dark black eyeliner to create an interesting doubled layer look that will have everyone talking.

Overall, I am totally in love with this set. I love how you have your perfect everyday colours teamed with some bold and exciting colours. This is a perfect place to start if you are looking to get your feet wet in the massive Urban Decay eyeliner pool, or just want to start up your eyeliner collection. They work out to be $9 each, which is honestly not that bad for something as high market as Urban Decay. Also, I have listed the RRP, but Beauty Bay usually has sales on (currently they have 25% off), so you can grab a bargain – plus free shipping to Australia!

Do you guys own any of the 24/7 Glide on Eye Pencils? What is your favourite shade? Comment below.

I promise I will be posting more often than I did towards the end of last year! I will also be making a few changes to the blog over the coming months – stay tuned!

Lust Have It – November

Beauty Box Subscription – November 2013

$19.95 per month

Lust Have It

Hey Beauty Babes! It feels like so long since I blogged properly. I promise I will get back on updating regularly. Plus, this is ridiculously late! This months (last months?) Lust Have It box didn’t seem to have a theme – the back of the info card just advertises their “FAB” box.

Oh well, on to the goodies!

Aveda Botanical Kinetics

Gel Cleanser $54.95/ 150ml – Sample Received 7ml

This plant-derived gel cleanser foams away impurities, helps normalise skin and gently dissolves makeup and impurities. Ideal for normal to oily skin.

Hydrating Lotion $79.95 / 150ml – Sample Received 7ml

Protecting from dehydration, this quick-absorbing hydrating lotion contains naturally-derived ingredients that replenishes moisture with a gentle touch. For all skin types.

Those that know me, know that I’m not a fan of gel cleansers. I just don’t feel like they do anything for me. This one was no different. It’s not that it’s a bad product or anything, just a personal preference. I will probably use the rest of the cleanser next time I need to do a double-cleanse. But I won’t be getting a full size. The moisturiser was equally disappointing for me – my skin actually reacted with it! I guess I just wasn’t meant to have these.

Verdict: Would not buy

Davroe Wellbeing Treatment Replenish

$11.95 /50ml, appear to have received full size.

This intensive moisture-rich treatment deeply penetrates to help repair, seal and smooth even the most damaged hair. With Australian pure plant botanicals and sunflower ceramides, it restores well-being, silkiness and shine to the hair

I actually really liked this. I am always on the hunt for a reasonably priced hair treatment, and I think I have finally found one. The application is a little time consuming – you have to shampoo your hair, and then towel dry it before applying this, and then washing it out after 5 minutes or so – but it might be worth it. Hubby used this as well and he seemed to like it (and lately he hasn’t liked ANY of my hair care products). I have already used the entire tube of this, and I will attempt to track down where I can buy it from!

Verdict: Would buy

Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula Gentle Exfoliating Facial Scrub

$9.99 / 150ml, sample size 15gms

Containing micro-fine crushed cocoa beans to gently exfoliate facial skin, this facial scrub removed dead skin cells. It reveals smoother skin and enhances the skins surface, allowing it to better absorb the daily moisturiser or night cream.

This isn’t too bad of a facial scrub. I have used this once or twice, and I find it almost equal to my Lush cleanser – although I found it a little weak for removing oil. I think I might pick up a tube of this to keep handy for the days when I just need a quick pick me up (or forget to take my cleanser with me somewhere).

Verdict: Would buy

Benefit “They’re Real” Mascara

$38 / 8.5ml, sample size 30gm

This breakthrough mascara reveals lashes you never knew you had with a specially designed brush that can be used horizontally and vertically. The long-wearing jet-black formula lengthens, curls, volumizes , lifts and separates.

There has been so much hype around this product for such a long time. And I must say, it is well deserved. As you can see by the pictures below, it does make a dramatic difference to my eyelashes. The little wand that came with the sample was a bit fiddly, but this may have convinced me to buy a high end mascara! There was also a voucher included in the box for a free eye-brow make-over at your local Benefit counter (I just couldn’t be bothered taking a photo of all the vouchers).

Verdict: Would buy

Mary Kay “Thinking of You” Eau De Parfum

$30/29.6ml, sample size 2 x sachets

This fruity floriental fragrance turns a moment into a memory with a scent that captures the emotions that connect us all and makes the perfect gift.

Now where to start – we could start with the horrendous made up word that is “floriental” (which almost sounds racist), or the fact the sachets were practically useless.  Inside the sachets were little wipes with the scent on it, which you just used on your skin – pretty much a guaranteed one time use! The scent itself was just ok – I’m sure some people would consider it nice but not really for me.

Verdict: Would not buy

Mary Kay Relaxing Foot Soak.

Part of the Pedicure set – $38.

There really wasn’t a description for this so I won’t worry about it. I pretty much got a lucky dip of one of four products that forms the Mary Kay pedicure set. Looking at the list, I would have prefered ANY of the other products, as I don’t have a foot spa or something adequate so soaking your feet in. Kinda disappointing.

Verdict: Would not buy

Lonvitalite C3 Collagen Firming and Moisturising Facial Mask

$32 Pack of 5,  sample received 1 mask.

Supplying collagen, this facial mask mildly seals water in the skin, improves skin lustre, fades wrinkles and promotes the regeneration of damaged skin cells…..

…But not with one application that’s for sure. These masks are all the rage at the moment (pretty sure I received a face mask like this in my last Lust Have It box as well). Once again, it’s a little finicky to use, as no-one has a perfectly symmetrical face, but once you get it on it’s not too bad. You do need to wash your face after, which I think is an improvement from the last one I used! I’m just…not a fan I guess. I think I will stick with my usual mud masks.

Verdict: Would not buy.

Overall, not a bad box this month – everything was either “yes, I love it” or “not really for me”. I’m sure there’s someone out there who loved everything in this box.

As always, if you are interested in getting your own monthly subscription, you can use the code DARK at the checkout and get $5 off your first month

Doctor Who Week – Bowties are cool….

…except when they aren’t becuase I seriously suck.

Day Three – 11th Doctors’ Bowtie

I decided to keep most of the eye quite neutral, and have the bows are the centre of attention.  I tried practising the bow shape on my hand, but it’s kinda harder to do on your face! I also decided to base this on Elevens red tie (theres a tiny bit of blue in there, but not enough to matter).

Products used:

– L’Oreal Base Magique Primer

– MAC pressed eyeshadow in Brule

– Physicians Formula Eyebooster in Ultra Black

– Sugarpill pressed eyeshadow in Love+

– Sugarpill loose eyeshadow in Asylum

– Sugarpill pressed eyeshadow in Bulletproof.

– Sugarpill pressed eyeshadow in Velocity (optional).

– Models Prefer Professional Ultra Lipgloss Pencil in Drama Queen

Doctor Who Week – Madame Vastra

Day Three – Madame Vastra

Obviously I don’t have the skill to create the full faced look she has. I thought about doing scales, but I had already done that with my Dragons Lair halloween look a few weeks ago. So I decided to keep this simple, with lots of layering and blending to achieve an awesome green look. And because I took these at 8pm at night with crappy lighting the photos aren’t the greatest, but hopefully you can see what I was going for. Also, please excuse my awful chapped lips 😦 Not drinking enough water and my body is really suffering.

Anyway, on to the look!

Products used:

– NYX eyeshadow base in White

– SugarPill pressed eyeshadow in Subterranean

– SugarPill loose eyeshadow in Darling

– SugarPill loose eyeshadow in Tipsy

– Sugarpill loose eyeshadow in Absinthe

– Physicians Formalua Eyebooster in Ultra Black (yay! my baby has returned)

– Sugarpill pressed eyeshadow in Midori

I didn’t actually mean to make this a mostly SugarPill look, I just happened to have them handy.

I hope you guys are still enjoying the series. I know the last two looks haven’t been as exciting as the original Dalek look, but I can’t wear sequins everyday.

Doctor Who Week – Attack of the Cyber(wo)men

Day Two – Cybermen!

This look didn’t quite turn out the way that I wanted it to – I seem to struggle with my silvers 😦 But anyway, this is what I came up with for the Cybermen look.

Products used:

– NYX eyeshadow base in white

– Models Prefer eyeshadow in a a medium grey shimmer

– SugarPill loose eyeshadow in Tiara.

– A little SugarPill pressed eyeshadow in soot and stars (just to darken a bit).

– Maybelline Metal 24 Hour Colour Tattoo in Silver Strike.

– Maybelline Illegal Lengths Mascara.

As always Beauty Babes, please leave a comment or a like to let me know how much you enjoyed this post. Sorry it’s kind of brief, it’s just the easiest way for me to get these to you quickly.
